Da sempre il carnevale di Venezia si distingue per la bellezza e la ricercatezza dei costumi.
Decine di migliaia di persone ogni anno accorrono per calli e campielli per immortalare con i loro apparecchi fotografici e cineprese la magia evocata da queste fugaci apparizioni uniche al mondo.
Due correnti parallele di gusto, si spartiscono il palcoscenico della città lagunare trasformandola in un gioco rutilante di colori e di fantasia: i costumi allegorici, fatti per lo più per la "piazza" evocano mistero ed ambiguità. Volti asessuati celati da bianche maschere lasciano trasparire viva personalità solo attraverso gli sguardi maliziosi contrastanti le pose statuarie studiate con consumato senso del teatro. Rasi, veli, paillettes, metalli, si mescolano in armoniose creazioni che ogni volta stupiscono ed affascinano con la loro conturbante bellezza chi ha la fortuna di incontrarle: né il turista più sprovveduto né il fotografo professionista sapranno resistere alla tentazione di fermare l'immagine di quell'attimo fuggente.
Invece chi predilige l'ispirazione al costume storico, non avrà che l'imbarazzo della scelta: epigoni della grande tradizione veneziana del Settecento, ritroviamo i preziosi abiti che nulla hanno da invidiare a quelli originali. Tutte l'epoche e i personaggi vi sono rappresentati, da Marco Polo a Casanova, dal Re Sole a Maria Antonietta, fino ai fasti della Belle Epoque, passando attraverso l'opulenza del XIX secolo: sete e velluti, broccati e damaschi, tagliati e cuciti con abile maestria, impreziositi da pizzi e ricami, vengono esibiti con disinvolta eleganza e civetteria che, come un tempo, diventano abili strumenti di seduzione.
Il Carnevale dei "nobili" e delle "damine" ha però un suo cerimoniale e le sue regole: il quartier generale, il celebre Caffè Florian di piazza San Marco, è il punto d'incontro per tutti i rendez-vous della giornata e dal quale si partirà per partecipare via via ai vari eventi che allietano la Venezia carnascialesca. Dalle tradizionali "cioccolate", ai concerti, alle feste danzanti nei più bei palazzi della città, vedranno protagonisti questi magnifici costumi per un Carnevale un po' meno "pubblico", ma che sicuramente immerge i partecipanti in una incredibile atmosfera d'altri tempi.
Non rimane, allora, che lasciarsi trascinare nel vortice di questa giocosa "Follia" e, una volta indossato un costume, sia dato inizio alla Festa!

Thousands of people run every year through "calle" and "campielli" for immortalizing with their cameras the magic evoked from these unique, fleeting apparitions.
Two parallel currents of taste, share out the stage of the lagoon city, transforming it into a rutilant play of colours and fantasy: the allegoric carnival-costumes, made mostly for the "square", evoke mystery and ambiguity. Asexual faces hidden from white masks leave to gleam through bright personality only by malicious glaces in contrast with the statuesque pose taken directly from the theatre world. Satins, voiles, sequins, metals, every time mixed in harmonious creations that amaze and facinate with their beauty every one who has the luck to meet them: neither the most unprepared tourist nor the professional photographer will be able to resist the temptation to stop the image in that fleeting moment.
On the contrary who prefers taking inspiration from the historical costumes, will have lots of options: followers of the big Venetian tradition of the eighteen century, we can find again the precious clothes that have nothing to envy to the original ones. There are present all the historical times and characters, from Marco Polo to Casanova, from the Sun-King to Mary-Antoniette, till the Belle Epoque splendour, passing through the opulence of the XIX century: silks and velvets, brocades and damasks, cut and sewed very skilfully, made precious from lace and embroideries, shown with a sure elegance and coquetry that, as in the past time, become seduction instruments. The Carnival of the "Nobles" and "Ladies" has nevertheless its roles and a unique ceremonial: the headquarters, the famous Caffè Florian in S. Marco square, is the point of meeting for all the rendez-vous of the day and from where leaving for participating in all the events of the carnival Venice.
From the traditional "chocolate", to the concerts, to the dancing parties in the most beautiful city palaces, will see protagonists these magnificent carnival-costumes for a Carnival less "public", but where certainly the masks will be inserted in a special old times atmosphere.
So, we have just to plunge into this whirl of playful "madness" and when dressed a carnival-costume just starting the Party!
